The Fortresses on Mt. Hakodate are very unique and photogenic places! Scattered across the mountain are the ruins of old war defenses. Building started in 1895 and the structures consist of 6 batteries, both large and small. It’s known as a secret place, since there isn’t much signage on the mountain directing people where to go.
It is a 3 hour hike, but don’t worry, it’s not a strenuous hike. No special gear is required. Along the way there are amazing views across the city as well as many opportunities to enjoy seasonal flowers and birds.
Mt. Hakodate is famous for wonderful night view, but it has more to offer!
Schedule
Meet up with a guideMeeting point: Mt. Hakodate Ropeway Sanroku Station (19-7 Motomachi, Hakodate, Hokkaido)
→Start hiking along the mountain path
→Visit 3 fortresses（possibly 2, depending on the walking pace）
→Take a break for 20 to 30 minutes for using toilet and having a snack
→Go down the mountain
→The tour ends at Mt. Hakodate Ropeway Sanroku Station
Time: 3 hours

This is an outdoor hike so please wear comfortable clothes and sneakers which you would not mind getting dirty.All seasons are available. But please note that there is a possibility of a cancellation due to bad weather.
